Hon. Vasudeva Nanayakkara,— To ask the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) it was decided by the budget proposals of 2016 to make a one off payment of Rs.250,000.00 to the 1980 July strikers instead of the monthly payment of Rs. 6,000.00 which was paid to them until 31.12.2015 under the programme of providing redress to the persons who lost employment for engaging in the aforesaid strike;
(ii) accordingly, the above sum has been duly paid to the strikers who completed 65 years of age up to December 2022; and
(iii) no striker who has completed 65 years from January 2023 up to date has been paid with this sum?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the date on which the payment of that sum to the strikers mentioned in the (a) (iii) above will commence; and
(ii) the reasons for not paying that sum to them?
(c) If not, why?
