Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, Attorney at Law,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the amount of rice imported during the period from 14th November 2023 to 13th November 2024;
(ii) separately, of the amounts of rice imported by the Government and by the private sector during the aforesaid period;
(iii) whether rice was imported to Sri Lanka after the presidential election held in 2024;
(iv) if so, of the aforesaid amount of rice specifying separately the quantity imported by the Government and the quantity imported by the private sector;
(v) of the reasons for importing rice;
(vi) of the import price of a kilogram of the aforesaid rice;
(vii) of the price at which the aforesaid rice was issued to the market;
(viii) of the price at which the said rice was sold to the consumer; and
(ix) of the amount of tax levied by the Government on the aforesaid rice?
(b) If not, why?
