Hon. Dewananda Suraweera,—To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the number of cooperative societies engaged in financial activities at present;
(ii) whether the Cooperative Rural Bank in Maharagama falls into that category;
(iii) whether he is aware that depositors have not been able withdraw their money because of irregularities on the part of the Chairs and the Board of Directors of the Maharagama Cooperative Society; and
(iv) of the measures that will be taken in order to solve this problem?
(b) If not, why?
