Hon. Sajith Premadasa,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management,—
(a) Will he state—
(i) the number of acres of paddy lands that can be cultivated by using the water of the Guru Ela anicut in Ussawa, Malsiripura ; and
(ii) the number of farmer families who depend on the water from the aforesaid anicut?
(b) Is he aware that the aforesaid anicut in Guru Ela is damaged and about 500 farmer families who were engaged in farming have faced difficulties due to lack of water?
(c) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the anicut in Guru Ela will be reconstructed ;
(ii) if so, the total amount of money spent for that ;
(iii) the date on which the reconstruction work will be completed ; and
(iv) whether action will be taken to grant a compensation to the affected farmer families until the aforesaid anicut is reconstructed?
(d) If not, why?
