    1. Hon. Gnanamuththu Srineshan,—To ask the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation,— (1)

      (a) Will he accept that —

      (i) the present government conducted interviews in stages for the appointment of 39 permanent directors to the Road Development Authority (RDA);

      (ii) 05 provincial directors and 34 directors were selected during those interviews and the Chairman of the Authority referred their names to the Board of Directors for approval;

      (iii) although approximately six months has elapsed, appointments have not yet been given; and

      (iv) the employees who have served the Authority for many years approaching retirement are expecting promotions, which is fair?

      (b) Will he inform this House —

      (i) of the reasons for not giving the appointments concerned yet;

      (ii) whether any impediments exist for making such appointments;

      (iii) of those impediments;

      (iv) whether measures are taken to remove such impediments;

      (v) whether he is aware that the delay in making the above appointments adversely affects the efficiency of the government; and

      (vi) of the date on which the above appointments will be effected?

      (c) If not, why?
