Hon. Ajith Gihan,—To ask the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources,— (1)
(a) Will he accept that —
(i) shrimp farming is carried out in Sri Lanka;
(ii) however, shrimp are imported to Sri Lanka from other countries and re-exported; and
(iii) this has caused an adverse impact on the shrimp farming industry in Sri Lanka and on the people engaged in that industry?
(b) If so, will he inform this House whether a course of action will be adopted to encourage shrimp farming in Sri Lanka instead of re-exporting shrimp?
(c) If not, why?
