Hon. Ajith P. Perera,— To ask the Minister of Power and Energy,—
(a) Is he aware that a project called “Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant” is being implemented in Kanyakumari District in the State of Tamilnadu in India?
(b) Will he state—
(i) the capacity of the aforesaid nuclear power plant;
(ii) the distance to the territorial waters of Sri Lanka from the aforesaid nuclear power plant;
(iii) the distance to Sri Lanka from the place where the aforesaid nuclear power plant is situated;
(iv) whether the Site Evaluation Study Report of the aforesaid nuclear power plant has been received by the Sri Lankan government;
(v) whether the Safety Analysis Report of the aforesaid nuclear power plant has been received by the Sri Lankan government; and
(vi) whether the above mentioned reports will be tabled?
(c) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the studies conducted by the Sri Lankan government on the possible impacts on the environment of Sri Lanka that can be caused by the aforesaid power plant;
(ii) whether the reports of those studies will be submitted to this House; and
(iii) of the steps taken by the government of Sri Lanka to prevent damage caused to the environment of Sri Lanka by the aforesaid nuclear power plant ?
(d) If not, why?
