      Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) a canal and a road which are not necessary for a number of fertile paddy lands are being made destroying those lands in Niyagamalahena Singaldeniya in the Siyambalagoda (West) Grama Niladhari Division in the Pitabeddara Divisional Secretariat  Division in the Matara District ;

      (ii) there is a strong protest from the people of the area in regard to the making of this canal ; and

      (iii) farmers complain that this act will result in the paddy fields running arid during droughts?

      (b) Will he inform this House—

      (i) of the amount of money spent to make the canal mentioned in (a) (i) above;

      (ii) of the funds out of which financial allocations are sought for that ; and

      (iii) whether arrangements will be made to terminate this project which is rejected by the people of the area and to take legal action against those officials responsible for this after a formal investigation?

      (c) If not, why?
