Hon. Ajith P. Perera,— To ask the Minister of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy,—
(a) Will he state—
(i) the steps taken by the Standards Institution of Sri Lanka to ensure the continuation of the standard of an item of which the standard has been certified; and
(ii) the circulars, regulations and orders pertaining to them if any ?
(b) Is he aware that a complaint has been made to the Standards Institution of Sri Lanka by Jagath Chandra Perera and Buddhi Jayawickrama Perera of Bandaragama on 23.09.2011 demanding an inquiry pertaining to the decline of the standard of a certain type of SLS certified Asbestos roofing sheet available in the market ?
(c) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the reason for not conducting an inquiry pertaining to the above complaint;
(ii) of the date on which the SLS accreditation was awarded to the aforesaid roofing sheet; and
(iii) of the steps taken to certify the continuous maintenance of the standard of the aforesaid roofing sheets ?
(d) Will he also state—
(i) the scientific research carried out by the roofing sheet manufacturing company mentioned in the above complaint in the year 2011 to ascertain whether their products maintain SLS standards;
(ii) the dates on which the aforesaid researches were carried out; and
(iii) whether the relevant reports will be submitted ?
(e) If not, why?
