Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam,— To ask the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) no steps have been taken to grant appointments in the public service to graduate trainee bhikkus;
(ii) a Cabinet decision has been made to confine bhikku appointments to semi government Pirivenas, cancelling the appointments of around 580 bhikkus who had been assigned to Divisional Secretariats ; and
(iii) there is a possibility of huge crisis occurring in the Buddha Sasana due to this state of affairs ?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) as to how many graduate trainee bhikkus are currently remain unemployed;
(ii) whether the Cabinet decision to confine graduate bhikku appointments to semi government Pirivenas be revoked; and
(iii) whether action will be taken to give appointments in the public service to graduate bhikkus ?
(c) If not, why ?
