Hon. (Mrs.) Anoma Gamage,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the number of student attending the Dhamma Schools is on the decline owing to small and large scale tuition classes being conducted in various places in the island on Sunday morning, despite stringent laws being imposed preventing tuition classes from being conducted till 1.00 p.m. on Sundays;
(ii) the text books meant for Dhamma School children do not reach them on time in required quantities;
(iii) the altering of the dates of the Dhamma School final examination hampers the education of the Dhamma School students; and
(iv) the uniform allowance paid to Dhamma School teachers is not made available to them on time ?
(b) Will he state—
(i) as to what steps will be taken to encourage children to take to Dhama School education;
(ii) whether, steps will be taken to provide the Dhamma School text books properly ;
(iii) the obstacles that impede that; and
(iv) whether, steps will be taken to pay the uniform allowance of the teachers on time and prevent the students facing inconveniences by altering the dates of the Dhamma School final examination ?
(c) If not, why ?
