Hon. Sujeewa Senasinghe,— To ask the Minister of Power and Energy,—
(a) Is she aware that—
(i) the Ceylon Electricity Board has signed a long term contract of purchasing electricity from private thermal power plants on its own accord by violating the directives and decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Treasury;
(ii) audit investigations have revealed that corruption and frauds amounting to crores of rupees at purchasing electricity from private thermal power plants ;
(iii) in this context, the waste of money within the Ceylon Electricity Board has become a major reason for electricity tariff increase; and
(iv) some officials who hold positions of Directors of the Board act as members of the Board of Directors of a number of private thermal power plants?
(b) Will she inform this House—
(i) of the Ceylon Electricity Board has incurred losses amounting to crores of rupees in obtaining vehicles from private sector on rent basis and making payments ;
(ii) the monthly rent on the vehicles obtained by the Ceylon Electricity Board on hire; and
(iii) the purposes for which the vehicles obtained on hire have been used?
(c) If not, why?
