Hon. Tissa Attanayake,— To ask the Minister of Investment Promotion,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of industrialists who are involved in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka at present;
(ii) of the number of employees in those garment factories; and
(iii) whether he is aware that there are 30 000 vacancies in those garment factories?
(b) Will he state—
(i) whether he accepts that the vacancies in the garment factories were filled using local labourers up to now;
(ii) whether there is a programme to fill those vacancies by obtaining labour from the countries like Bangladesh, India and Myanmar in the future;
(iii) if so, the factors that lead to such a situation;
(iv) whether it is admitted that obtaining foreign labour for filling vacancies in the said field will be curtailed the employment opportunities for the youth in this country; and
(v) if so, the courses of action that will be taken in this regard?
(c) If not, why?
