Hon. (Mrs.) Anoma Gamage,— To ask the Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the names of the villages of which the people make their living by pottery industry; and
(ii) of the number of families that depend on the aforesaid industry for their living?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether the clay that is required for the pottery industry is obtained from the same villages where those who are engaged in that industry live;
(ii) if not, whether the clay that is required for that industry is bought from outside; and
(iii) of the nature of problems existing in relation to the pottery market?
(c) Will he state —
(i) the nature of the assistance provided by the government for the pottery industry, obtaining machinery required for the production of clay products and for obtaining the clay required for the industry;
(ii) whether the government has developed plans to encourage the use of clay products by the people; and
(iii) if so, the nature of those plans?
(d) If not, why?
