      Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs,—

      (a) Will he inform this House—

      (i) of the number of persons living in Sri Lanka at present who do not possess a National Identity Card;

      (ii) as to why action was not taken to issue them with a National Identity Card;

      (iii)  whether action will be taken to issue them with a National Identity Card;

      (iv) if so, in what manner will it be done; and

      (v) of the date on which Identity Cards will be issued to them?

      (b) Will he state—

      (i) whether the government is making arrangements to issue a new Electronic Identity Card;

      (ii) if so, whether it will be possible under the aforesaid system to issue an identity card to all the Sri Lankan Citizens who are over 18 years of age;

      (iii) the plan that has been developed for the aforesaid purpose;

      (iv) the amount of money that is expected to be spent on the aforesaid new project; and

      (v) whether any fee will be charged from the persons who obtain the aforesaid new Identity Card?

      (c) If not, why?
