Hon Anura Dissanayaka,— To ask the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House of —
(i) the number of L.T.T.E. members who surrendered to the government or were taken into custody with the end of the war situation in the North and the East in May, 2009;
(ii) the number that has been rehabilitated and re-integrated into society by now, out of the L.T.T.E. members who surrendered to the government or were taken into custody;
(iii) the number of L.T.T.E. detainees still held in prisons; and
(iv) the duration for which they have been detained as remand prisoners?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the total number of remand prisoners who have been detained in prisons for a period exceeding one year;
(ii) of a breakdown of the number of prisoners in (b) (i) above as per their term in remand prison;
(iii) whether there are prisoners who are not L.T.T.E. detainees who have been held as remand prisoners for over seven years;
(iv) if so, what that number is; and
(v) of the steps taken to expedite judiciary action in relation to prisoners who have been detained in prisons for a long time?
(c) If not, why?
