Hon. Shanthi Sriskandarasa,—To ask the Minister of Public Administration and Management,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a large number of public servants lost their jobs prior to 1980 owing to the official language policy;
(ii) Public Administration Circular No.37/91 dated 23.08.1991 was issued to grant relief to them;
(iii) many could not receive the expected relief due to the conflict situation that prevailed in the country at the time; and
(iv) there are hundreds of people who had not received any relief?
(b) Will he inform this House whether—
(i) the above circular will be issued in a more flexible manner; and
(ii) action will be taken to grant relief to the affected public servants or members of their families?
(c) If not, why?
