      Hon. Vasudeva Nanayakkara,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management,—

      (a) Is he aware that —

      (i) due to the acquisition of lands for the construction of Yan Oya Project, 07 ancestral tanks, houses and paddy fields were submerged in the reservoir and the residents of the area have lost their homes and have been left destitute; and

      (ii) that, despite objections by the residents of the area, arrangements are being made by authorities to distribute among those residents the lands in a thick forest in Kajuwatta area which is not suitable for living?

      (b) Will he admit that  —

      (i) the aforesaid residents had requested that, out of the area of 600 acres that has not been submerged in the reservoir close to Malporuwa village and bordered by the south canal, an extent of 200 acres be provided to them; and

      (ii) accordingly, the subject Minister who visited the area along with the relevant officials instructed them to provide those residents with an extent of 200 acres of high land out of the aforesaid land as early as possible?

      (c) Will he inform this House whether immediate steps would be taken as per the decision stated in (b)(ii) above to provide lands to the aforesaid people as they have not been provided with any land to reside in to date?

      (d) If not, why?
