      Hon. S. Shritharan,— To ask the Minister of Higher Education and Highways,—

      (a) Is he aware that—       

      (i) the Jaffna-Mannar A-32 road was renovated in the year 2010;

      (ii) however, the Mandaikkalaru bridge which is situated in the section of the road that runs through the Punerin Divisional Secretariat Division was not repaired;

      (iii) the aforementioned bridge must be crossed to travel towards Mannar, Jaffna, Mullaithivu and Killinochchi areas;

      (iv) major issues have been cropped up when transporting patients of the Mulangavil, Iluppathkadawai Base Hospital who require emergency treatment to Jaffna and Killinichchi hospitals; and

      (v) the aforementioned road was obstructed and could not be used during the past rainy seasons due to the dilapidated condition of the bridge?

      (b) Will he inform this House—

      (i) of the reasons for not starting repair work on the aforementioned bridge although a notice board which states that the bridge is under construction has been installed and supplies required items for construction have been brought to the location;

      (ii) as to what happened to the money allocated for the reconstruction of the Mandaikkalaru bridge;

      (iii) whether the aforesaid money was returned;

      (iv) if so, of the names of persons who are responsible for such action; and

      (v) of the date on which the aforesaid bridge will be reconstructed?

      (c) If not, why?
