Hon. Indika Anuruddha Herath,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the total extent of paddy lands cultivated in the Western Province during the first season this year;
(ii) the total extent of uncultivated fallow paddy lands in the Western Province;
(iii) quantity of paddy the country lost due to uncultivated fallow paddy lands in metric tons;
(iv) of the cultivated but destroyed paddy lands in hectares;
(v) of the timely measures taken to prevent/ minimize the recurrence of damage experienced; and
(vi) of when will the farmers whose crops were damaged will be compensated ?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether permission will be granted to use uncultivated paddy lands for any economic purpose;
(ii) if so, whether a feasibility study has been done; and
(iii) the conclusion of that feasibility study?
(c) If not, why?
