Appropriation Bill (2025) - Second Reading

The Hon. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development delivered the ‘Budget Speech (2025)’ at 10.30 a.m.


Announcement by the Speaker

That all amendments to be moved during the Committee Stage in respect of the Appropriation Bill 2024 should be handed over to the Secretary-General of Parliament on or before 3.00 p.m. on Thursday, 20th February, 2025.


Thereafter, the Second Reading Debate on the Appropriation Bill (2025) was adjourned until 0930 Hrs. on Tuesday 18th February 2025.


The Parliament was temporarily suspended until 2.00 p.m.


Main Business of the House for Today

Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill (appearing as Item No. 2 of today’s Order Paper)

The Second Reading was passed by the House after having taken a division (187 in favour; 0 against).

The Third Reading was passed by a two thirds special majority of votes (158 in favour; 0 against) in the Parliament.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1925 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Tuesday 18th February 2025.
