Presentation of Papers by the Speaker

(i)    The First Report of the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for the First Session of the Tenth Parliament was presented by the Hon. (Dr.) Chrishantha Abeysena, the Chair of the Committee.
(ii)    The Report of the Committee on Public Finance was presented by the Hon. (Dr.) Harsha de Silva, the Chair of the Committee.

Irregularities in recruitment and filling of vacancies of teachers

The Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education replied to the above Question.


Ministerial Statements

(i)    Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education made a Ministerial Statement on Issues regarding the admission of students to intermediate classes in government schools.

(ii) Hon. K.D. Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation replied to the Question raised by the Hon. Sivagnanam Shritharan under the Standing Order 27(2) of the Parliament on 08.05.2025 regarding Land issues in Northern and Eastern Provinces.

(iii) Hon. Major General (Rtd.) Aruna Jayasekera, Deputy Minister of Defence, on behalf of the Minister of Defence made a Ministerial Statement on Government’s stand regarding Tamil genocide monument inaugurated in Canada.


Main Business of the House for Today

Order under the Excise (Special Provisions) Act (appearing as Item No. 1 of today’s Order Paper)

was approved by the House.


Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on “Gazette notification regarding the land acquisition in Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Mannar” was proposed by the Hon. G.G. Ponnambalam.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1800 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 21th May 2025.
