The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education discusses the “Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO” Bill, which was submitted to the Parliament.

A discussion was held at the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education on the Bill entitled "Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO" presented to the Parliament on the 20.02.2024.

This was taken up at the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education Chaired by Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) V. Radhakrishnan held in Parliament recently (May 09).

A discussion on the same was held during an earlier occasion and this is the second stage of the said discussion. Mainly, the composition of the proposed commission was discussed at length and the proposals and amendments of the Committee were also presented in this regard.

The officials who were present stated that the amendments pointed out by the Committee will be incorporated soon.

It was also decided to discuss on the same at length with other members of the Committee.

Hon. Asanka Navaratne and Hon. (Prof.) Charitha Herath, members of the Committee, were present at this meeting.

Officials including the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO and the youth representatives of the committee were also present  in this meeting.
