The most important function of this body is to formulate and control the Annual Budget of the Parliament .The Finance & Accounts office of the Parliament provides financial services to the Hon Members of Parliament, Ex members of Parliament, the staff of the Parliament & the Suppliers and service providers to the Parliament, in addition to the main financial functions of the institution in order to facilitate carrying out of the business of the Parliament without any interruption.

Other Functions of the Finance & Accounts Office

  • Budgeting and preparation of Annual Estimates  of expenditure and Budgetary control .
  • Preparation of Annual Appropriation Account.
  • Collection of revenue and making statutory deductions.
  • Rendition of monthly accounts  and reports to the Treasury.
  • Rendition of monthly/annual accounts and reports to the Auditor General.
  • Reconciliation of monthly accounts.
  • Operation of official bank account.
  • Maintenance of the main ledger , other accounts & financial records using CIGAS. (Computerized Integrated Government Accounts System)
  • Payments of salaries and allowances to Members of Parliament.
  • Payment of Parliamentary pension to ex- Parliamentarians & their widows.
  • Payment of salaries , wages & allowances  to the  staff.
  • Payment of loans to the   staff.
  • Settlement of suppliers invoices/bills & utility services bills.
  • Handling the matters relating to the free Postal  provisions
