Hon. Padama Udayashantha Gunasekera,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the forest in the Maragala Oya mountain range situated above Moneragala town in Moneragala district has been declared a reserve;
(ii) if so, of the date it was done;
(iii) whether this forest in the Maragala mountain range has been gazetted as an environmentally sensitive area;
(iv) if so, of the date it was done;
(v) the extent of land belonging to the Maragala Oya forest;
(vi) whether the boundaries of this sensitive area or the reserve have been marked;
(vii) of the rivers, water courses, rivulets and streams that start from this mountain range;
(viii) whether it has been reported recently that the water of the drinking water project had been contaminated due to unauthorized activities near the “G-Lone” water reserve, a water source here; and
(ix) of the action taken to protect the forest and the water sources?
(b) If not, why?
