Hon. Ananda Aluthgamage,— To ask the Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) whether he is aware that the people living in Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat Division are suffering a severe water shortage;
(ii) whether he is aware that the Ma Oya originates from the catchment areas of Rakshawa and Asu Pini Ella located in this Division;
(iii) whether the water will be provided to the people in the electorates such as Aranayake and Mawanella using the waters of the Ma Oya which flows through the aforesaid catchment areas;
(iv) whether it would not be reasonable to provide water first to the people in Ganga Ihala Korale, who have been affected by the shortage of water, and then to the people in other areas; and
(v) whether steps will be taken to provide water to the people in Ganga Ihala Korale and also to the people in Aranayake and Mawanella without creating any issue?
(b) If not, why?
