      Hon.Wimalaweera Dissanayake,— To ask the Minister of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils & Local Government,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) when allowances and facilities of the Members of Parliament are increased, a half of such increase is correspondingly applicable to Provincial Councilors as well;

      (ii) the allowances of the Members of Parliament have been increased in the recent past;

      (iii) a part of the increased allowances and facilities is to be paid as arrears to the Councilors of the Eastern Provincial Council which stands dissolved upon the completion of its term; and

      (iv) though, nearly a year has elapsed since the dissolution of the Eastern Provincial Council, the arrears entitled to those Councilors have still not been paid;

      (b) Will he inform this House—

      (i) whether he admits that the non-provision of this allowance to the Councilors of the Eastern Provincial Council is a grave injustice when it has been paid to Councilors of all other Provincial Councils in Sri Lanka; and

      (ii) the date on which this allowance in arrears will be paid to the Councilors of the Eastern Provincial Council?

      (c) If not, why?
