Hon. Indika Anuruddha Herath,— To ask the Minister of Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Co-operative Development and Vocational Training & Skills Development,—
(a) Is he aware that a number of Textile Centers established in many districts of the country make a direct or indirect contribution to the national production, creating several employment opportunities?
(b) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the number of Main Textile Centers, Sub Textile Centers and Domestic Textile Centers operative in Gampaha district;
(ii) of the number of Main Textile Centers, Sub Textile Centers and Domestic Textile Centers that have been closed down respectively in Gampaha district;
(iii) of the major causes that led to close down aforesaid Textile Centers and of the number of employment opportunities lost due to that reason;
(iv) of the proposals made by the Budget 2019 in respect of the improvement and the revival of aforesaid local industry; and
(v) whether he is satisfied said proposal?
(c) Will he also inform this House —
(i) of the annual turnover of the Textile Centers operative in Divulapitiya Electorate; and
(ii) of the institution tasked with the monitoring process of the operations of aforesaid Centers?
(d) If not, why?
