      Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Lands and Parliamentary            Reforms,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) the St. Catherine Estate located within the Seaforth Division belonging to the Yatiyantota Divisional Secretariat Division is a water catchment area of the River Kelani and a haven for animals such as sambar and deer; and

      (ii) it is an area sought by local tourists?

      (b) Will he inform the House—

      (i) whether arrangements are being made to demarcate a 50-acre portion of that Estate and allot it to an individual or a group of persons;

      (ii) whether the Land Reform Commission has been conducting survey activities for this purpose;

      (iii) of the reasons for conducting its survey activities clandestinely on public holidays; and

      (iv) whether the same problems will not recur under the circumstances although the requests made by the private sector with regard to this area since 2010 were rejected owing to the environmental concerns and the public outcry against it?

      (c) If not, why?
