    1. To ask the Minister of Economic Development,—

      Will he state—

      the amount of money allocated under the ’Gama Neguma’ project for the development of small tanks in the Puttalam district ;

      and the names of the tanks that are being developed?

      Will he admit that—

      under this project, approved has been sought from the Divisional Secretary, Agrarian Services Officer, Additional Commissioner of Agrarian Services and the Director General of Agrarian Services of the Department of Agrarian Services to develop small tanks in the Puttalam district ;

      and the farmer organizations that are involved in rehabilitating tanks are immensely inconvenienced as they are unable to complete their work as planned before the rainy season, owing to this long procedure in obtaining approval?

      Will he inform this House whether he will take steps to—

      arrange for the approval for the development of small tanks be given to the farmer organizations only upon the recommendations of the Divisional Secretary and Agrarian Services Officer ;

      and implement an effective programme through which these small tanks development schemes can be carried out within a short period as 2 weeks?

      If not, why?
