Rathnasekara,— To ask the Minister of Education,— (a) Will he inform this House— (i) of the number of Pre-schools functioning is Sri Lanka at present; (ii) of the number of Pre-schools that have been closed to date; and (iii) of the measures the government expect to take to develop facilities of pre-schools? (b) Will he also inform this House— (i) whether there is a proper method in place to pay salaries or allowance to Pre-school teachers; (ii) whether a programme is in place to absorb Pre-school teachers to Sri Lanka Teacher Service or to any other combined service at equal level; (iii) whether a certain regulatory method is in place with regard to determining the recruitment and qualifications of Pre-school teachers; and (iv) whether there is a mechanism in place to regulate fees charged from children studying in Pre-schools? (c) Will he further inform this House the new proposals expected to be implemented to streamline Pre-school education? (d) If not, why?
