Hon. K.P.S. Kumarasiri,— To ask the Minister of Health,—
(a) Is she aware that—
(i) various programmes are implemented by the government to control the dengue menace spreading in Sri Lanka; and
(ii) the population of mosquitos start to increase when it rains after the drought in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts?
(b) Will she inform this House of—
(i) the number of dengue positive cases in Sri Lanka up to now; and
(ii) the courses of action taken by the government to control the dengue menace?
(c) Is she also aware that various efforts made by the then government failed during the period 2008/2009 to import B.T.I. bacteria from Cuba to destroy dengue mosquito larvae?
(d) Will she also inform this House—
(i) whether any research has been conducted with regard to the aptness of using B.T.I. bacteria to control the dengue mosquitoes in Sri Lanka;
(ii) if it is not possible to use B.T.I. bacteria to control dengue mosquitoes in Sri Lanka, the reasons for that; and
(iii) the alternative that can be used to control the dengue mosquitoes instead of B.T.I bacteria?
(e) If not, why?
