Hon. Wasantha Yapabandara, Attorney at Law,— To ask the Minister of Technology,—
(a) Is he aware that —
(i) SIM cards issued by various telephone companies are sold on the pavement in major cities without any proper regulation by the government;
(ii) such SIM cards are misused and various misdeeds are committed by persons who fraudulently buy them in bulk;
(iii) a racket is being run online to fraudulently get money credited to bank accounts promising that goods will be delivered to people; and
(iv) youth in many areas including Kandy, Ratnapura, Piliyandala, Badulla and Colombo have become victims of such rackets?
(b) If so, will he inform this House separately of the measures that have been taken so far and the measures that are expected to be taken in the future to prevent the aforesaid frauds?
(c) If not, why?
