Hon. K. P. S. Kumarasiri,— To ask the Minister of Mass Media,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the building where the Anuradhapura main post office is housed in, is in a dilapidated condition ;and
(ii) this poses a threat to the lives of even the customers and the employees?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether steps have been taken to give the land in which the above building is located and owned by the Department of Posts, to a private company for a Housing Project neglecting the repair of the above building;
(ii) the conditions upon which the agreement has been reached for the above purpose as of now; and
(iii) whether it is feasible to undertake the above project in the same land while retaining the ownership of the land and the building with the Department of Posts?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the measures that have been adopted to make the Department of Posts, currently running at a loss into a going concern; and
(ii) whether steps will be taken to modernize the Department of Posts to suit the current society and the market needs?
(d) If not, why?
