Hon. K. P. S. Kumarasiri,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation,—(1)
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) invasive aquatic plants have grown in many tanks in Sri Lanka currently; and
(ii) the tanks have got filled due to organic sediments that get deposited in the river beds when these plants decay?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether there is any program to remove the invasive plants in the above tanks;
(ii) of the program which is implemented to renovate the tanks which have got filled by now; and
(iii) whether a program will be formulated in collaboration with the Farmers’ Associations to eradicate the invasive plants that grow in tanks?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the steps that have been taken to protect the tank reservations and the dams; and
(ii) whether steps will be taken in collaboration with the public to protect tanks?
(d) If not, why?
