Hon. Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy,— To ask the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the measures taken to monitor and control the spread of misinformation and hate speeches on social media platforms, particularly content that incites communal tensions or mob violence in Sri Lanka;
(ii) whether steps have been taken to engage with social media companies, telecommunication service providers and other relevant stakeholders to curb such harmful content;
(iii) if so, of the nature of the such engagements;
(iv) of the progress acheived so far through these engagements;
(v) whether any dedicated monitoring unit or inter-agency task force has been established to oversee online hate speech, communal incitement or mob mobilisation; and
(vi) of the mechanisms in place to ensure accountability in relation to hate speech?
(b) If not, why?
