Hon. Suranga Rathnayaka,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the quantity of maize produced in Sri Lanka and the quantity imported to Sri Lanka during each of the years 2023, 2024 and during the first quarter of 2025, separately in metric tons;
(ii) of the course of action that has been put in place at present to promote maize production in Sri Lanka;
(iii) whether a reasonable price can be given to farmers during the maize harvesting periods in Sri Lanka; and
(iv) of the programme in place to control the fluctuation of maize prices?
(b) If not, why?
