Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a road is being constructed from Kitulgala to Pallebage through the Makanduwa Reserve which belongs to the Kitulgala Kelaniweli Reserve in the Kegalle District and coming under the purview of the Department of Forest Conservation;
(ii) allegations are leveled by the environmentalists that the environment is severely damaged as a result of constructing this road; and
(iii) the people of the area request that the construction work of the aforesaid road be stopped in order to prevent the damage caused to the environment ?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether permission has been legally obtained to construct the aforementioned road through the Makanduwa reserve; and
(ii) whether action will be taken to stop the construction work of the aforesaid road taking the damage caused to the environment and the public protests into consideration ?
(c) If not, why ?
