Hon. Ranjan Ramanayake,— To ask the Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare,—
(a) Is he aware that —
(i) over 300 Sri Lankan women who have gone for employment in Kuwait are held in police custody and in prison camps with no other charges but for fleeing from their work places due to various kinds of maltreatment and harassment they had to face; and
(ii) regular and immediate response to solve those problems is not received from the officials of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment attached to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait to look into the grievances of Sri Lanka migrant workers subjected to harassment in that manner and act accordingly?
(b) Will he inform this House whether action will be taken to repatriate the personnel held in Kuwait camps speedily?
(c) If not, why?
