      Hon. Chandima Gamage,— To ask the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) the Elephant-Human conflict has been aggravating since last five years and the damages are being caused on the human lives and the elephant resource; and

      (ii) due to informal and disordered construction of electric fences, instead of their villages being protected, the people living in the villages have become helpless, having unfairly dispossessed of their homes and lands?

      (b) Will he inform this House—

      (i) of the number of electric fences projects that have been put up during the recent past and the number of fences projects, proposed to be put up;

      (ii) separately, the Districts and Divisional Secretariat Divisions where electric fences have been put up;

      (iii) of the number of electric fences that have become defunct at present; and

      (iv) whether a proper mechanism has been set up in the Ministry to receive the complaints of the people who had faced with the situations as of aforesaid (a) (ii), in order to serve justice to them?

      (c) If not, why?
