Hon. Vijitha Herath,— To ask the Minister of Housing and Construction,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) whether National Machineries Institute has been removed from State Engineering Corporation and placed under the purview of National Housing Development Authority;
(ii) if so, whether he is aware of the fact that the employees will be deprived of the allowances like attendance allowance of Rs. 4,000/=, the year end bonus and the death grant of Rs. 40,000 /= which were paid until now;
(iii) whether it is agreed to provide those allowances by the new institution or to reimburse, otherwise;
(iv) if not so, whether it is accepted that a grave injustice is caused to the employees; and
(v) of the measures will be taken to avoid aforesaid injustice?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether there is any plan underway to re-establish the aforesaid Institute, having 50 depots, instead of having a single entity, once it is removed from the state Engineering Corporation;
(ii) if so, whether it is accepted that a huge cost will be required , in order to operate those 50 depots, bearing the costs for electricity, water, telephone and other expenses, afresh;
(iii) whether alternative measures will be taken, instead of bearing aforesaid cost?
(c) If not, why?
