Hon. Harin Fernando,— To ask the Minister of Highways,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the Malangamuwa bridge over the Malangamuwa Oya on the Badulla-Kandagolla road via Rambukpotha, broke down in the floods of 2007 ;
(ii) due to the rains that fell on 01st May 2010 the remaining part of the bridge has collapsed causing great damage ;
(iii) nearly ten thousand residents living in several villages including Malangamuwa, Sirimalgoda, Kandagolla, Hinnarangolla, Atambagahakandura, Muthumala and Kahataruppa have been put to inconvenience as their transportation activities have been completely blocked as a result ?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the reasons for not repairing it even after a lapse of 2 1/2 years as mentioned above ; and
(ii) whether action will be taken to recover from the contractor the loss incurred to the government as a result of not constructing the bridge as per the standard ?
(c) If not, why
