Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena,— To ask the Minister of Education,—(1)
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) over 150 National Schools are functioning without properly appointed principals and the administration of those schools are severely handicapped;
(ii) the Ministry of Education has called for applications from suitable teachers to be selected as principals for those national schools;
(iii) the Ministry has conducted an examination for this purpose at the end of the year 2015;
(iv) the Ministry has held interviews in March 2016 based on the results of the examinations; and
(v) so far, no action has been taken by the Ministry to fill these vacancies?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) reasons for the delay in appointing Principals; and
(ii) whether the necessary steps will be taken to fill those vacancies based on the marks obtained by the candidates?
(c) If not, why?
