Mr. B. S. B. Tittawella dedicated nearly three decades of his life to serving the Parliament of Sri Lanka, leaving an indelible mark as a distinguished public servant. Born with a passion for law and oratory, Mr. Tittawella's journey began at Trinity College, Kandy, where he laid the foundation for his future academic and professional successes.
After graduating from Ceylon Law College in 1963, Mr. Tittawella quickly rose through the ranks, displaying exceptional skills both as a legal professional and an orator. His accolades, including the prestigious Hector Jayewardene Gold Medal for Oratory, foreshadowed his future contributions to the Sri Lankan legislature.
Following stints at the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, Mr. Tittawella embarked on a journey of international exposure and academic enrichment. His experiences as a Congressional Fellow in the United States, a parliamentary trainee in the United Kingdom, and a Harvard Law School graduate equipped him with invaluable knowledge and insight into legislative practices worldwide.
In 1971, Mr. Tittawella began his tenure with the Parliament of Sri Lanka as the Second Clerk Assistant. Over the years, he ascended through the ranks, eventually assuming the pivotal role of Secretary-General of Parliament in 1994. Throughout his tenure, he exemplified unwavering dedication, professionalism, and a profound understanding of parliamentary procedures.
Mr. Tittawella's contributions extended beyond the confines of his administrative duties. He played pivotal roles in significant constitutional milestones, serving as Assistant Secretary to the Constituent Assembly during the drafting of Sri Lanka's first Republican Constitution in 1972 and contributing to the process again in 1978.
One of the highlights of Mr. Tittawella's tenure was the successful hosting of the 41st Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference in 1995, a testament to his organizational prowess and diplomatic finesse.
Tragically, Mr. Tittawella's passing in 2022 left a void in the Sri Lankan legislature. His legacy lives on through his unparalleled knowledge, dedication, and sense of humor, which endeared him to colleagues and counterparts alike.
