Mrs. Priyanee Wijesekera (Actg. SG)

Mrs. Priyanee Wijesekera was raised in an educated family. She did very well in school and attended Vishaka Vidyalaya. Later, she went to the University of Colombo, where she studied law. She worked really hard and got a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) and then a Master of Laws degree (LLM).

Mrs. Wijesekera wasn't just good at studying. She also played netball for the University of Colombo team and excelled at both sports and studies.

Her work life began at the Bribery Commission, where she learned a lot about laws. In 1985, she started working as the Secretary of the Law Commission. This was just the beginning of her important work in the government.

From 1994 to 2002, Mrs. Wijesekera worked as the Assistant Secretary General of the Parliament. She excelled at her job and showed great leadership qualities.

Her biggest achievement came when she became the first Sri Lankan woman to be the Secretary-General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. She was also the first Asian woman to hold such position.

In 2006, she received the Zonta Award, which recognizes women who achieve remarkable feats. Mrs. Wijesekera was honored for her contributions to law and her efforts in supporting women.

After she retired in 2008, Mrs. Wijesekera provided assistance to the Seychelles' Parliament. She was proficient at making rules for how the Parliament worked.

In 2015, she became the Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna.

Now, Mrs. Wijesekera helps the President of Sri Lanka with matters pertaining to Parliament. She uses all her knowledge and experience to help make good decisions for the country.

Mrs. Wijesekera has authored two books on the functioning of governments and Parliaments. The first, titled "Governments & Parliaments in the Next Millennium," was published in 1999. The second book is titled "Parliamentary Practice in Sri Lanka."

She's a big inspiration to many people, showing that with hard work and determination, anyone can make a big difference. Her legacy will live on for many years to come.
